Mammoth Cave National Park encompasses over 52,000 acres in western Kentucky. The park's most well-known natural wonder, is the extensive underground caverns. The explored portion of the caverns extend for 390 miles, making Mammoth Cave the world's longest known cave system. Visitors have been exploring the cave since 1816. Today's visitors spend days underground on over 15 different tours just to see it all. View the incredible "Frozen Niagara", the unique formation of travertine flowstone, on the Frozen Niagara tour. Take a break from viewing the gypsum in various crystalline shapes and sizes on the Snowball Tour to enjoy a snack or lunch in the underground Snowball Room.
Established in 1941, the park protects the caverns as well as the Green River valley and rolling hills of Edmonson county above the caverns. Bring your hiking shoes or bicycle for above-ground fun in the park's 70 miles of forested trails. Horseback riders have access to 60 miles of trails, while 30 miles of the Green and Nolin Rivers are prefect for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating.
